Shahidullah Kamal was born on 6 February 1999 in Khost Province, Afghanistan, a region where cricket has gradually gained prominence despite limited infrastructure. Growing up in a period of instability, Shahidullah’s first exposure to the game came through street cricket and local neighbourhood matches, where he developed a natural feel for batting.

From an early age, he displayed versatility — equally good as a batter and a slow left-arm spinner. His performances in regional tournaments drew attention from local coaches, and by his early teens, he was already competing in structured domestic competitions. 

Shahidullah’s consistent displays earned him national recognition, and at just 15, he was selected in Afghanistan’s squad for the 2014 ICC Under-19 World Cup, marking the beginning of his formal cricketing journey.

Shahidullah Kamal’s Domestic Career

Shahidullah Kamal’s domestic career took shape quickly. He made his List A debut for Afghanistan A in January 2017 during their tour of Zimbabwe, signalling his transition from youth to senior representative cricket. Later that year, he made his T20 debut for Band-e-Amir Dragons in the Shpageeza Cricket League, showcasing his ability to adapt to the fast-paced nature of franchise cricket.

In November 2017, Shahidullah debuted in first-class cricket for Mis Ainak Region in the Ahmad Shah Abdali 4-Day Tournament. His breakthrough domestic season came in 2018, when he emerged as the leading run-scorer for Mis Ainak Region, amassing 663 runs in eight matches, establishing himself as one of the most dependable batters in Afghanistan’s red-ball circuit.

His performances earned him opportunities in Afghanistan’s premier T20 competitions. He featured for Kabul Zwanan in the inaugural Afghanistan Premier League (2018) and became a regular for Kabul Eagles in the Shpageeza Cricket League, playing a key role in their strong campaigns. 

While most of his franchise career has been within Afghanistan, his consistency has brought him exposure to higher-level training environments and opportunities alongside experienced international players, further refining his all-round game.

Shahidullah Kamal’s International Career

Shahidullah Kamal’s rise to international cricket was built on years of domestic consistency and youth-level success. Having represented Afghanistan at the 2014 Under-19 World Cup and the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, he gradually progressed into the senior national setup, earning call-ups across all three formats.

Shahidullah Kamal’s Test Career

Shahidullah Kamal made his Test debut for Afghanistan on 10 March 2021 against Zimbabwe, marking his entry into the longest format of the game. Used primarily as a batting all-rounder, he provided stability in the middle order while also offering a spinning option when conditions demanded.
