Sara Kennedy is one of the brightest young fast-bowling talents in Australian cricket — a left-arm quick with natural pace, sharp movement, and a calm maturity well beyond her years. Born on 2 August 2007 and raised in the small Victorian town of Skipton, Kennedy has rapidly become a name to watch across the domestic landscape.

A student at Ballarat Clarendon College, Kennedy made headlines early in her career when she was selected in the boys’ First XI — a sign not only of her skill, but her competitive temperament. Her early pathway success saw her represent Victoria Country at both the 2022 and 2023 Under-19 National Championships, where she consistently troubled top-order batters with her angle and new-ball discipline.

Kennedy’s rapid rise continued in October 2023 when she was called into the Melbourne Renegades squad for the first time as an injury replacement. At just 16 years old, she made her WBBL debut against the Sydney Sixers during WBBL|09, quickly impressing with her control at the death and her ability to swing the ball into the right-hander. She ended her early WBBL stint with the best figures of 2/20, underlining her promise as a bowler who thrives in pressure situations.

Her development progressed further when she broke into Victoria’s WNCL side, earning her maiden appearance at just 17. A naturally aggressive fast bowler who can hit the deck hard, Kennedy has already shown glimpses of becoming a long-term asset in the domestic one-day arena.

Internationally, Kennedy has been part of Australia’s Under-19 program since the age of 15, first as a reserve in the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup and later earning full selection for the 2025 Under-19 World Cup squad in Malaysia. With her left-arm angle bringing a valuable point of difference, she has become one of the most closely watched pace prospects in the youth system.

While she has also signed a multi-year deal with Tasmania for the WNCL, Kennedy remains firmly part of the Melbourne Renegades’ plans for WBBL|11. The Renegades see her as a long-term strike weapon — a bowler who can bring genuine venom with the new ball while also developing into a reliable option in the middle overs.
