Rodney Marsh Profile, Career & Stats

One of the finest wicketkeepers to grace the cricket field, Rod Marsh MBE, was born in Perth on November 4, 1947. 

In his First-Class debut for Western Australia against the touring West Indies team in 1968-69, Marsh hit a century in one of the innings and displayed his ability to play at the higher level. 

He made his Test debut in November 1970 against England and earned accolades after accepting a declaration from captain Bill Lawry when he was batting at 92 in his fourth red-ball fixture. 

It took Marsh more than two years to hit his first century in the longest format, in a knock of 118 against Pakistan at Adelaide. He became Australia's first wicketkeeper to hit a century in this pursuit. 

This knock was a final nail in the coffin, as the selectors zeroed in on him for donning the gloves for the national team. 

Marsh hit his career-best score of 132 in the most extended format against New Zealand in 1974. In 1981, the talented batter was etched into the history books to be the first wicketkeeper to cross 100 dismissals in a single Ashes series. 

Marsh received the honor of Member of Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 1982. 

The skillful gloveman registered another record of most dismissals (355) by a keeper in his final red-ball match in January 1984 against Pakistan. The following month, he featured last for Australia in an ODI fixture against West Indies. 

Marsh finished with 3633 runs in 96 Test matches and had 1225 runs in 92 limited-overs fixtures. 

In March 2022, he left all of us due to a cardiac arrest.
