Rahul Sharma belongs to the new generation of Indian cricketers who have benefitted from the IPL. The tall 26-year-old from Jalandhar isn’t an orthodox leg-spinner; he delivers the ball with a high-arm action, bowls flat and only occasionally gets the ball to turn. He relies heavily on bounce, often drawing comparisons with Anil Kumble. Sharma was initially signed by the Deccan Chargers before being roped in by the Pune Warriors ahead of IPL 2011 and performed very well that year. He even made it to the Indian team on the back of his IPL success. He was signed up by the Daredevils in the 2014 auction and CSK bagged him ahead of the 2015 season.
