Muhammad Usman was touted to be UAE cricket’s saviour, after their do-everything man - Khurram Khan’s retirement. Usman is a high-prolific attacking middle-order batter who has been a regular in Emirati colour since his international debut, back in 2016.
Born in Lahore and raised in the United Arab Emirates, Usman emerged as a star, even before marking his debut, when his contributions were highly appreciated in domestic circles in 2015. The left-hander made his first-class debut in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup, in 2016, while his ODI debut came in the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship, later that year.
In that Intercontinental Cup, the Lahore-born scored his maiden first-class century against Papua New Guinea.
Usman was always destined to play the sport at the international level, Emirates Cricket Board named the southpaw in the national squad for the World Cricket League Division Two tournament, in January 2018.
In the next two years, Usman took major strides and helped UAE remark their territory in the cricketing world. He was even their main man during ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in 2018 and ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier of 2019.
In December 2020, he was one of ten cricketers to be awarded a year-long full-time contract. And the following month, the dazzling batter notched his maiden ODI hundred against Ireland.
The UAE International is now at the twilight of his career, and works more like a mentor-player to budding crop from the country.
