Mathew Rohan Nandu, an aspiring West Indies cricketer, donned the Maroon jersey at the Under-19 during the tour of England in 2021. He is one of the brightest batting talents emerging from the Islands.
Born in Guyana, Nandu comes from a cricket background, his father is a former Guyanese and West Indies player. The youngster, in his childhood, used to live in Rohan Kanhai’s neighbourhood and that is the sole reason for his middle name. And Nandu modelled his batting, following the game of Brian Lara and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
The naturally talented cricketer was nurtured by his father-cum-coach and through his guidance, the youngster took huge strides at age-group levels. Nandu’s talent was hard to cache as he signed a sponsorship deal with Adidas, even before donning the West Indies U19 jersey.
In September 2021, the Guyanese batter toured England to play six Young ODIs where he showed his class but there he didn’t score an ample amount of runs. Even at the age of 18, Nandu has shown the technique to bat longer hours and the temperament to score runs at a quick rate.
