Born in Auckland, Martin Colin Snedden is a former New Zealand cricketer known for his seam movement and pinch-hitting batting lower down the order.
Coming from a family that had a cricketing background, Michael started playing first-class cricket for Wellington, and hence, Snedden’s family became the first family to field four generations on a cricket field.
Snedden started his cricketing career playing for Auckland in domestic cricket as a right-arm fast-medium bowler and a handy lower-order batter. After performing consistently in over 100 First-Class and List-A matches, he was called for national duties.
The paceman played in ODI’s between November 23, 1980, and May 1, 1990. He did manage to pick 114 wickets in the 93 matches he played but was in record books as he became the first bowler to concede over 100-runs (12-1 105-2) in an ODI match.
Currently, the veteran is the chairman of New Zealand cricket. He was a lawyer by profession in his earlier days while also serving as a Chief Executive Officer of NZC. For his services in sporting administration, he was honored with Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CZNM) in 2012.
