The first Kashmiri cricketer to be selected in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction, Jasia Akhtar, is known for her power-hitting abilities. Before cricket, Akhtar had already shown her athleticism by playing various sports, including kabaddi.

The Shopian-born talent in cricket was first recognized when she was called up to the national camp for the India Women's national cricket team in September 2017. Akhtar became the first woman cricketer from Jammu and Kashmir to be selected for a national camp. She went on to impress in domestic cricket, scoring a century against Bengal Women in the 2021 Women's Senior One Day Trophy.

The 34-year-old was selected for the India D Women's team, where the power-hitter showcased her electrifying skills with a brilliant knock of 56 runs against India A. Her performance helped India D win the game by a whopping 10 wickets.

In February 2023, Jasia made headlines when she became the first Kashmiri woman cricketer to be selected for the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL). The Delhi Capitals (DC) team roped her in for INR 20 lakhs in the auction. This is an outstanding opportunity for the swashbuckler to prove her worth and rub shoulders alongside some of the best players in the world.
