Born in Mumbai, Hurley Tanmay Gala is a young fast-bowling sensation who was part of India’s U-19 team.
In her early years of schooling, Gala studied at Utpal Shanghvi Global School and took up skating as her preferred sport. She even represented the state in skating but had to leave the game after twisting her ankle.
Then, the 16-year-old pursued cricket and featured in tennis ball tournaments. After impressive performances, the pacer’s father enrolled her in Negev Cricket Academy, with his coach being Ivan Rodrigues, father of batter Jemimah Rodrigues.
Gala started playing with the leather ball at the age of twelve and soon entered the Mumbai U-19 team.
The Mumbai-born made her senior debut with Mumbai at fifteen in the Senior T20 Trophy 2022 against Bengal. She cleaned up the experienced all-rounder Deepti Sharma and finished with figures of 1/18 in three overs. The next game against Haryana witnessed her dismissing another star Indian cricketer, Shafali Verma.
The talented pacer scalped seven wickets in four games against the New Zealand U-19 team in the latter part of 2022. The consistent performances with the ball and usefulness with the bat helped her get selected for the U-19 World Cup 2023. Unfortunately, however, Gala missed the ICC event due to an injury.
The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 auction saw Gujarat Giants (GG-W) acquiring the youngster for an amount of INR 10 Lakhs.
