Among the new generation of fast bowlers emerging from Australia, Austin Anlezark is beginning to carve out a reputation as one to watch. The right-arm medium pacer has been steadily climbing through Cricket Victoria’s ranks with a mix of skill, discipline, and calm maturity rare for his age.
Anlezark first made his mark in junior and representative cricket, turning heads with his consistency and ability to extract movement off the pitch. His early success with Victoria Country’s Under-19 team earned him a call-up to national youth camps, where coaches praised his ability to maintain control under pressure.
The turning point in his young career came during the 2024 Top End T20 Series, where he took seven wickets in 3 matches for the Melbourne Stars Academy. When Scott Boland was on national duty last year, the Melbourne Stars brought in Anlezark as a local replacement player — a valuable experience that gave him a taste of professional cricket’s intensity. For the 2025-26 BBL season, Anlezark will again be part of the Melbourne Stars side.
"Austin Anlezark has shown a lot of ability throughout the Cricket Victoria pathway system and has been a player we’ve had our eye on for the last couple of years. He’ll learn a lot from being around the current group and it’s great to introduce him to the BBL environment this year," said Melbourne Stars General Manager Blair Crouch in an interview.
In the 2024–25 season, the 2005-born player was rewarded with a rookie contract by Cricket Victoria, confirming his place among the state’s brightest bowling prospects.
The Victorian pacer is yet to make his debut in List A and first-class cricket. However, Anlezark made his Australia U-19 debut in 2023.
If his current trajectory continues, Austin Anlezark could soon be a regular feature in Victoria’s pace attack — and, in time, another name in Australia’s long line of disciplined, hard-working quicks.
