Ashwani Kumari, known for her long-range hitting and pace bowling, hails from Govindpur, Jamshedpur. She currently plays for Jharkhand Women's in the Indian domestic circuit and regarded as one of the most talented all-rounders.
The Govindpur-born liked cricket since childhood and requested her mother to buy her a plastic bat. At Twelve, she started playing cricket with the boys from her neighbourhood.
Ashwani decided to play professional cricket after watching the 2013 Women's World Cup. Still, belonging to a middle-class family, she couldn't afford a cricket kit and used to borrow the equipment from others.
The young lass caught selectors' attention in the Senior Women's T20 Championship, where the right-handed batter amassed 84 and 95 runs and earned her place in the East Zone side. Later, the 25-year-old impressed everyone with her quickfire 65 runs against Central Zone.
Due to her eye-catching performances, Ashwani was roped in by Gujarat Giants Women (GG-W) for INR 35 Lakhs in the inaugural Women's Premier League (WPL) auction held recently.
