Vignesh Puthur’s Early Life and Background

Vignesh Puthur was born in Perinthalmanna, Kerala, into a modest household. His father, Sunil Kumar, works as an autorickshaw driver, while his mother, K.P. Bindhu, is a homemaker. Despite financial challenges, his family remained a strong pillar of support throughout his cricketing journey.

Interestingly, Vignesh did not start as a spinner. He initially trained as a medium pacer before switching to left-arm wrist spin on the advice of local mentors. 

He progressed steadily through Kerala’s Under-14, Under-19, and Under-23 teams, building a strong foundation.

Vignesh Puthur’s domestic journey stands out for its unusual trajectory, as he stepped onto the IPL stage even before making his senior debut for Kerala. His official entry into senior domestic cricket came later in the 2025–26 season, where he quickly made an impression across formats.

Vignesh Puthur’s IPL Career

Vignesh Puthur’s IPL journey is a classic example of rapid rise through performance and opportunity.

Before entering the league, he served as a net bowler for MI Cape Town, where he gained valuable exposure and trained alongside international stars. His performances impressed scouts, leading to the Mumbai Indians signing him for INR 30 lakh in the 2025 IPL auction.

He made an immediate impact on debut against Chennai Super Kings on 23 March 2025, picking up three important wickets, including Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda. His confident performance and ability to handle pressure stood out, earning him recognition early in his IPL career.

However, his debut season was cut short due to injuries, limiting his opportunities. He was subsequently released by the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2026 season.

In the 2026 IPL auction, Rajasthan Royals secured his services for INR 30 lakh, offering him a fresh platform to re-establish himself.
