Over the years, South Africa has lost quite a lot of skilful cricketers to other countries. One such player is Michau du Preez who now plays for the Namibian cricket team.
The South African born player has represented Namibia at the Under-19 level and was also a part of the Namibia squad for the 2015 ICC World T20 Qualifier tournament.
A doughty right-handed wicket-keeper batter, du Preez made his first-class debut in 2013 and made a name for himself at the domestic level.
He was drafted into the Namibia squad for the 2018 Africa T20 Cup. This was just the breakthrough du Preez needed as he was the leading run-scorer for Namibia with 164 runs in just four matches.
After a long wait, du Preez finally got a chance to make his T20I debut for Namibia against Uganda in April 2021. He scored a brisk 25-ball 29 in the match as Namibia won the game by 7 wickets.
In September 2021, Namibia announced their squad for the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and as expected, du Preez was a part of the team.
A gritty batter, du Preez has already stamped his authority at the first-class level for Namibia. Now it is time to take it one step forward and prove his worth at the international level.
