Akash Deep is known for his impressive control over line and length, which was the reason RCB roped him for the second phase of the 2021 IPL season.
Born in Rohtas, Bihar, Akash made his T20 debut for Bengal in the 2018-19 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. In his debut match against Mumbai, he impressed everyone with his variations, taking 2 for 21 in a losing cause.
In 2019, he made his first-class debut for Bengal in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy campaign. And just like his T20 debut, Akash was the star for his side in his Ranji debut, scalping 3 wickets in the first innings against a star-studded Andhra side.
An exceptional talent, Akash Deep is a confident bowler whose knack of picking up wickets at crucial junctures makes him a special commodity.
Akash Deep IPL Career
Perhaps Akash Deep’s biggest breakthrough came in August 2021, when it was announced that he had been roped in by the Royal Challengers Bangalore to replace the injured Washington Sundar for the second phase of the Indian Premier League.
Across the next few seasons, he featured sporadically, including five matches in 2022. His growing stature in red-ball cricket saw him attract significant interest at the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, where Lucknow Super Giants secured him for INR 8 Crore, fending off bids from Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings.
He was released after the season and picked up by the Kolkata Knight Riders for IPL 2026. However, he was ruled out of the season after sustaining a lower-back stress injury.
Akash Deep International Career
Akash Deep has rapidly established himself as a key Test pacer for India. The right-arm medium pacer made a memorable Test debut for India against England on February 23, 2024, in Ranchi.
As the 313th Test player for India, he made an immediate impact by taking three quick wickets in his opening spell, removing England's top order to help India take control of the fourth Test.
Akash has been part of the Indian Test setup for a while, but his breakthrough came in the second Test against England at Birmingham in 2025. He produced a superb match haul of 10 wickets, including his maiden Test five-wicket haul, playing a key role in India drawing the five-match series away from home.
