Player Bio

Afghanistan’s cricketing pipeline continues to unearth exciting young pace prospects, and Bilal Sami is one of the most promising names among them. Born in Kabul, the right-arm fast bowler has steadily risen through the ranks with his lively pace, sharp movement, and disciplined approach.

Sami first caught attention during the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies, where he spearheaded Afghanistan’s bowling attack with consistency and aggression. Clocking speeds in the high 130s, he impressed with his ability to extract bounce and maintain control under pressure.

Following his Under-19 success, Bilal transitioned into senior domestic cricket, representing Amo Region in Afghanistan’s first-class and List A competitions. The first-class debut came in 2019, while the List A debut came in 2022.

The 2004-born pacer continued to showcase his knack for breakthroughs with the new ball, delivering crucial spells in the Ahmad Shah Abdali First Class Tournament and the Ghazi Amanullah Khan One-Day Cup.

He made his ODI debut against Zimbabwe in December 2024. However, it was his second ODI match ever in October 2025 against Bangladesh where he truly announced himself on the international stage. Sami claimed a five-wicket haul and handed Afghanistan a 200-run win over the Tigers. He became only the third Afghan bowler to claim a fiver in ODIs.
On the back of this performance, Sami became part of the Afghanistan A squad for the Rising Stars Asia Cup in November 2025.

Still in his early twenties, Sami remains a work in progress but has already drawn comparisons to the likes of Naveen-ul-Haq for his energy and commitment.

As selectors look to groom future stars for international cricket, Bilal Sami stands out as a symbol of Afghanistan’s evolving pace-bowling identity—raw, fearless, and full of promise.
