Shivam Dube went berserk against New Zealand with his electrifying 65-run knock from just 23 balls. The Indian all-rounder launched three boundaries and seven huge sixes in his innings at the VDCA Stadium in Vizag on Wednesday, January 28.

Shivam Dube even took a special liking to senior New Zealand spinner Ish Sodhi, extracting three sixes and two fours off the latter’s single over during India’s huge pursuit. Through the course of his batting mayhem, the 32-year-old has now joined the likes of former captain Rohit Sharma and legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh.

Shivam Dube among Indians with most runs in a single T20I over

Shivam Dube arrived to the crease at 63-4 in the ninth over of the Indian innings in an improbable chase of 216. Batting at number six, the cricketer got to 12* off six balls before taking strike against Ish Sodhi in the 12th over.

Dube started off the over by powering right back over the bowler for a double. The cricketer followed it up with a hard-earned boundary through midwicket. Ish Sodhi, now rattled, sent down a wide as seven runs were added to the Indian total off just two legitimate deliveries.

Shivam Dube took advantage of India’s gaining momentum by slapping three sixes and a boundary off the next four deliveries as the cricketer raced to 40* off 12 balls. With Sodhi leaking 29 runs off his over, Dube scored 28 of those off the bat as India stormed from 87-5 to 116-5 in the space of just six deliveries.

Notably, Shivam Dube’s batting effort now places him at number four among Indian players with most runs scored in a single over of a T20I game. Yuvraj Singh continues to top the list for blasting 36 runs in one over against England’s Stuart Broad back during the 2007 T20 World Cup.

Once compared to Yuvraj himself for his explosive all-round abilities, Dube offered fresh justification for that parallel with a blistering over to remember.

Active teammate Sanju Samson and former captain Rohit Sharma also form a part of the elite list for their respective pyro techniques, both in 2024. Here is a look at Indian players with most runs scored in a single over of a T20I match.

Shivam Dube slaps 15-ball half-century

Shivam Dube also slapped a 15-ball half-century to record India’s third-fastest fifty in T20I cricket. The 32-year-old surpassed Hardik Pandya’s 16-ball effort after reaching 52* off 15 balls.

Yuvraj Singh, who bludgeoned 50 runs from just 12 balls against England at the 2007 T20 World Cup continues to remain India’s fastest half-centurion, and the second fastest overall in the history of the format. Abhishek Sharma also tonked a 14-ball half-century earlier this week to be ranked second on the list.

Shivam Dube’s explosive knock goes in vain

Despite Shivam Dube’s raging effort, Team India lost the match by 50 runs in the fourth T20I. With New Zealand making it 1-3 in the five-match series, the two sides will now face each other in the final T20I on Saturday, January 31.

The match will be hosted by the The Sports Hub in Thiruvananthapuram.
