Jos Buttler produced a match-winning performance for England in the first T20I against Sri Lanka in Southampton on Tuesday, September 15.

The wicketkeeper-batter played an aggressive innings and helped England post a huge total of 254/4 in their 20 overs. Buttler scored 80 runs from just 44 balls at a strike rate of 181.82, giving England a strong platform at the top of the order.

Harry Brook supported him, and the pair added 128 runs for the second wicket off just 60 balls. The England captain finished unbeaten on 114 from 49 balls at a strike rate of 232.65.

The innings also helped Jos Buttler to overtake Rohit Sharma’s massive T20I record.

Jos Buttler entered the match with 4,212 T20I runs and needed 20 to overtake former India captain Rohit Sharma. After his innings, Buttler moved into second place on the list of the highest run-scorers in T20I cricket.

Rohit finished his T20I career with 4,231 runs in 159 matches before retiring from the format on June 29, 2024.

Buttler has now scored 4,292 runs in 161 T20I matches at a strike rate of 149.44. Pakistan’s Babar Azam remains at the top with 4,596 runs in 145 matches at a strike rate of 128.02.
