RCB fans troll Romario Shepherd's fitness [Source: X]
Sunday night in Ahmedabad, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru ended their season with yet another title under Rajat Patidar, as they defeated the Gujarat Titans by 5 wickets in their own backyard. This is the first time any team has gone back-to-back with 10 teams participating in the league.
In what was nearly a flawless campaign, where a majority of things went RCB’s way, the form of their Guyanese star, Romario Shepherd, was underwhelming. Contrary to their maiden trophy win in 2025, he also did not feature in the final. However, the spirits were high in the team as they clinched the trophy again.
In the aftermath of the celebrations, one of RCB’s staff members accidentally made a shocking revelation regarding Shepherd. RCB fans were left fuming on the internet, as they called out the all-rounder.
Romario Shepherd’s poor IPL 2026 in a nutshell
During IPL 2025, Romario Shepherd was among the key overseas players who played a crucial role in them winning the title.
In the final, he had dismissed Shreyas Iyer at just 1 off 2, helping the team defend the score. He had 6 wickets in 7 innings, chipping in with timely wickets. With the bat, he had 70 runs in 3 innings at a strike rate of 291.66 as well.
However, he could not replicate the form this season, albeit playing 15 matches. He only got 7 wickets at an economy rate of 11.92 runs per over and scored 83 runs in 7 innings at a strike rate of 125.75. He was eventually dropped for bringing in Jacob Duffy into the playing XI as well.
Fans call out Shepherd’s fitness after IPL 2026
Having won the back-to-back titles, RCB’s lead analyst Freddie Wilde took to his Twitter (X) after the final and posted a collage picture with the support staff. The picture had both 2025 and 2026 celebration images from the same Ahmedabad dressing room.
Interestingly, in the background of the IPL 2026 picture, Romario Shepherd was seen shirtless and he looked a bit out of shape.

Will RCB release Romario Shepherd?
Over the last couple of years, RCB players have shown great character on the field, unlike the olden days. While they have remained unbeaten in the playoffs, they have also been in the top-2 of the table on both occasions since the mega auction.
They have built a team with the help of stats and good analytics, where Romario Shepherd fits in as a multi-dimensional player. Having won the two titles, it is unlikely that he will be released as they go for a three-peat.
They do not have a readily available like-for-like replacement for him and would prefer giving him another season before the next mega auction.
