Babar Azam faces humiliation in BBL [Source: @iamAhmadhaseeb, @Raising29, @Tareq__007/X.com]
Babar Azam faced the wrath of fans after a sluggish knock of 14 off 17 balls in a BBL game between the Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars. The opener wasted the powerplay and was deceived by Marcus Stoinis after a heated exchange.
The Sixers signed Babar and endorsed him as a star overseas buy. But the Pakistan batter’s performance in his debut Big Bash League season has been nothing but ordinary.
Babar Azam mocked again for his disastrous knock in BBL
Meanwhile, in the 27th fixture between Sydney Sixers and Melbourne Stars, Babar Azam walked out to open in the first inning with Sixers captain Moises Henriques.
Babar struggled with the strike rate as Sydney managed to get only 29 runs in the first powerplay. After wasting the field advantage stage, Azam gifted his wicket away in one of the most embarrassing ways possible.
Marcus Stoinis trapped him lbw with a sharp, full delivery. The ball nipped back in just enough to beat Babar’s inside edge and crash into his pads. After a brief chat with his partner, Babar Azam chose not to review, knowing he hadn’t made contact.
Replays later showed the ball clipping the leg stump, confirming the umpire's call. Stoinis had the last laugh and Babar walked back for 14 off 17 balls, having struck one boundary, and fans, as usual, mocked him on social media.

"babar azam has reached a point of no return; he should not be included in the t20wc squad"- @Prometheus_122
Strike rate has always been a big issue for Babar Azam in T20 cricket. Despite being the leading run scorer in T20Is, his runs have often come in losing causes.
In the BBL 2025-26 season, he has accumulated 147 runs in 7 innings at a 24.17 average and a 108.21 strike rate. Even his two fifties have come at a strike rate of below 150.
Due to this reason, Babar was also briefly dropped from Pakistan’s T20I side, with coach Mike Hesson setting a condition. He urged the opener to improve his scoring rate, and only then can he get back into the national setup.
While Babar Azam is back in the T20I squad, his current form, especially in the BBL, is concerning. Pakistan needs to stay vigilant and review Azam’s place in the T20I side since the T20 World Cup 2026 is less than a month away.
