Italy debuts in T20 World Cup vs Scotland on February 9 [Source: CricketScotland, DerbyshireCCC/X.com]
Italy are all in readiness to make their debut in the T20 World Cup as they take on Scotland in Match 7 of the 2026 edition at the iconic Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on February 9, 11 AM (IST).
Scotland comes into the match after suffering a 35-run defeat at the hands of West Indies on the opening day of the tournament at the same venue. Left-arm quick Brad Currie with his 2/23 (4) and captain Richie Berrington with 42 (24) were their best performers on the day after they got a late entry in the tournament.
The Wayne Madsen-led Italy are also brimming in confidence after defeating Ireland in their last T20I, followed by a warm-up match win over Canada and the UAE in Chennai. JJ Smuts was their top performer against Canada, and it was backed up by Mosca brothers, Grant Stewart and Crishan Kalugamage shining in a 112-run win over UAE.
As they take on each other on Monday morning, here's what to expect from the match.

SCO vs ITA: Player battles
Anthony Mosca vs Brad Currie
The right-handed Italian opener is starting the T20 World Cup in good form, having scored a fifty against the UAE in warm-ups. While his strike rate is lower than that of his brother Justin Mosca, he tends to hold Italy's innings together and would be crucial for them to start the competition on a high note.
On the other hand, Brad Currie is also an in-form opening bowler, who picked two crucial wickets of Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford in the last match, while conceding at less than 6 runs per over. Whoever wins this battle in the powerplay will help their team with a good start to the innings.
Richie Berrington vs Grant Stuart
Captain Richie Berrington is a middle-order batter who can score at a brisk pace in the middle and death overs, as he did in the West Indies game. He will be up against the senior Italian bowler, who would come in first change and operate in the same phase. He has 87 T20 wickets in 81 games and will use his experience against Berrington.
George Munsey vs JJ Smuts
The two senior pros of both teams, Munsey and Smuts, are likely to collide if the latter is given the new ball, as in the previous warm-up fixture. Munsey plays spin well and has good sweeps and reverse-sweeps in his arsenal. How Madsen uses his experienced bowler, who has done well recently, will be key to Italy's chances.

SCO vs ITA toss prediction
So far, 13 T20Is have been played at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, including the Scotland vs West Indies match earlier in the edition, and 6 have been won batting first, 7 while chasing.
The expected first innings stays around 170 to 180, where teams will fancy their chances of defending the totals. The batting conditions will be excellent, and considering it will be a day match, the dew factor goes out of question. The team winning the toss would ideally like to bowl first and know what they are chasing.

SCO vs ITA match winner prediction: Who will win in Match 7?
Scotland have had a quick turnaround in the last couple of weeks, but the first match of the tournament showed they have adapted decently to the situations and also have experience at the tournament. Italy are also coming in with a good recent form and wins under the belt in the warm-ups, which means a close contest could be on the cards.
A potential upset could also be on the cards, but considering experience at this stage, Scotland holds an edge over the Europeans in match 7.
