In a recent development, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli have made a significant real estate investment by purchasing about 5.1 acres of land in Alibaug, a popular town near Mumbai. According to property registration documents, the couple paid ₹37.86 crore for the land.
Kohli and Anushka buy ₹37.86 crore land in Alibaug
The land purchase includes two adjoining plots in Zirad village, Raigad district. One plot measures approximately 3.6 acres, while the second spans about 1.55 acres.The transaction was officially registered on January 13, and stamp duty of around ₹2.27 crore was paid.
The seller of the land is Sonali Amit Rajput, who is a director at Samira Land Assets Pvt. Ltd. Notably, Virat Kohli’s brother, Vikas Kohli, completed the legal formalities for the purchase on behalf of the couple.
Real estate data analytics firm CRE Matrix accessed the registration documents and confirmed the details of the deal according to LiveMint.
The experts believe that such high-profile purchases have a strong impact on local property markets. Abhishek Kiran Gupta, CEO of CRE Matrix, said that deals of this size by celebrities often act as a 'signal' to the market.
“Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma buying an over 21,000 sq metre land parcel in Alibaug is a textbook ‘celebrity signal’ moment. Deals of this size typically reset local land benchmarks—especially when backed by a ₹2.27 crore stamp duty outlay, which confirms transaction seriousness,” said Abhishek Kiran Gupta, chief executive of CRE Matrix.
“Such celebrity-led acquisitions tend to trigger a ripple effect among high-net-worth individuals, accelerating price discovery and fast-tracking Alibaug’s shift from a weekend celebrity escape to a structured luxury land and second-home destination,” he added.
Major investment for Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma
It is important to mention that this is not the first time Kohli and Sharma have invested in Alibaug. In 2022, the couple had bought nearly eight acres of land in the same region through two separate transactions for ₹19.24 crore from Samira Habitats, a company belonging to the same group as Samira Land Assets.
They later built a luxury vacation home on that plot, which is now often described as a private and peaceful retreat.
Virat Kohli reclaims No. 1 ODI ranking
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is also making headlines on the cricket field. The star player has regained the No. 1 spot in the ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings. This rise came after his impressive 93-run knock against New Zealand in the first ODI.
Kohli has been in outstanding form, scoring 50 or more runs in each of his last five ODI matches. Since retiring from Test cricket and T20Is, he has focused solely on ODIs, showing aggressive and free-flowing batting with a strike rate of over 100 in recent matches.
In the ongoing New Zealand tour of India, the series is currently level 1-1. After India won the first ODI, New Zealand bounced back with a seven-wicket victory in the second match. The third and final ODI will be played on January 18, 2026, at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, where all eyes will once again be on Virat Kohli.
