Suryakumar Yadav confirms Ishan Kishan as T20 World Cup 2026 opener
India captain Suryakumar Yadav has seemingly confirmed Ishan Kishan as team’s new opener for the upcoming 2026 ICC T20 World Cup 2026. The cricketer made the announcement while speaking with the reporters just a day prior to the launch of the showpiece event.
Shutting the door on Sanju Samson’s face, Suryakumar Yadav praised Ishan Kishan for his blistering form with the bat off late, both in international and in domestic cricket. Compatible to Suryakumar’s claims, the left-hander plundered 215 runs in four innings against New Zealand last month, and also belted a 20-ball 53 in the warm-up match against South Africa.
Josh Hazlewood ruled out of T20 World Cup 2026
Australia fast bowler Josh Hazlewood has officially been ruled out of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 owing to his injury. The speedster is yet to recover from the hamstring injury he sustained in Australia back in November last year. With this latest setback, Josh Hazlewood has joined fellow senior paceman Pat Cummins among list of injured Australian fast bowlers for the showpiece event.
It is worth noting that Hazlewood also missed the entirety of Australia’s home Ashes series against England, and the entire three-match T20I tour of Pakistan.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi pounds record 80-ball 175
Vaibhav Suryavanshi went berserk in the final of the 2026 ICC U19 Men’s World Cup against England in Harare. Opening the innings and losing partner Aaron George early in the game, the Rajasthan Royals star blasted 175 runs from just 80 balls with 15 cracking boundaries and as many sixes. The blistering left-hander racked up a slew of batting records through the course of his blitzkrieg.
Apart from charting the highest number of sixes in a single Youth ODI innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi also recorded the highest individual score in a U19 World Cup final as India mounted 411-9 in 50 overs.
India beat England to lift 2026 ICC U19 World Cup
The India U19 team thrashed England by 100 runs in the final at the Harare Sports Club to lift the 2026 ICC U19 Men’s World Cup. The outcome marked India’s sixth U19 World title, and their first in four years.
India batted first and charted 411-9 from 50 overs courtesy of a splendid 80-ball 175 from Vaibhav Suryavanshi and a captain’s knock of 53 from Ayush Mhatre. In turn, RS Ambrish (3-56) picked up three wickets and Deepesh Devendran, Kanishk Chouhan chipped in with two each as India skittled England for just 311.
Mohammed Siraj replaces Harshit Rana for India
India fast bowler and all-round apparent Harshit Rana has been ruled out of the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup owing to a knee injury. The speedster attained the injury just a day prior to the launch of the showpiece event.
The BCCI selection committee and the Indian team management has now named senior fast bowler Mohammed Siraj as his replacement for the tournament. Siraj last played a T20I for India back in July 2024 during a series in Sri Lanka.
