In a major development, Mumbai have made two changes to their squad for the Round 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2026/27. Yashasvi Jaiswal and injured Ayush Mhatre have been left out of the 16-member squad.
The 42-time champions Mumbai started their campaign this season with a commanding victory over Chandigarh, winning the match by an innings and 155 runs.
Mumbai replace Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ayush Mhatre with Raghuvanshi, Shedge for Round 2
For the next match against Himachal Pradesh, Mumbai have replaced Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ayush Mhatre with the young duo of Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Suryansh Shedge.
Mhatre, initially named deputy to Siddhesh Lad, suffered a hamstring injury during Mumbai’s season opener against Chandigarh. The 19-year-old has been ruled out for the next four to six months with a Grade Four tear on his right hamstring.
Meanwhile, the star opener, who scored a 13-ball duck on his first ball, is unavailable as he has to join the India A squad ahead of the three unofficial Test matches in New Zealand, starting on October 26.
It is worth mentioning that both the inclusions are coming off brilliant form.
The all-rounder was India A's saving grace in their 1-2 defeat to Australia A, picking up five wickets and racking up 79 runs across three matches. Meanwhile, Raghuvanshi is fresh off a double century for Rest of India U23.
How mighty Mumbai demolished Chandigarh inside three days?
The Siddhesh Lad-led Mumbai are coming off a massive victory over Chandigarh, where they batted first to post a gigantic total of 429 runs.
Skipper Lad was the highest scorer with 86 runs, while three other Mumbaikars scored equally impressive fifties, including number 10 Mohit Avasthi's 56 not out.
Later, the Chandigarh batters got rattled against Tushar Deshpande’s magic, as the India international picked up a five-wicket haul to restrict the opposition to just 78 runs. They were made to follow on and again dismantled for 196 to lose the match in just three days.
Nevertheless, Mumbai will face Himachal Pradesh in Round 2 of the Ranji Trophy 2026/27, starting this Sunday at Bilaspur.
