However, Sri Lanka’s bowlers made a strong comeback in the middle overs, picking up quick wickets and slowing down the scoring rate. 

Although Jamie Overton tried to keep England in the contest with a late push, the visitors were eventually bowled out for 252, falling short of the target.

Heading into the second ODI, England will be desperate to bounce back and level the series. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, will aim to clinch the series in Colombo.
