It came as a surprise for many since the bowler has often been harsh and critical of the board. The reports, however, have finally been addressed by Shoaib Akhtar himself, who has opened up on the possibility of joining the PCB.Shoaib Akhtar denies all rumours of joining the PCBAfter multiple management and coaching staffs stepped down from their roles following the disappointing England tour, the Mohsin Naqvi-led management reportedly asked Shoaib Akhtar to join the board in that particular capacity.However, recently speaking to the Pakistan media, Akhtar said he has no intentions of joining the PCB in any role whatsoever.“I have had no meeting, and I’m not interested in taking up any position whatsoever. I stand by my statement. I’ve been hearing all sorts of reports about me being made Chief Selector or taking up some other major role. He was appointed to the position by then PCB chairman Najam Sethi, with the role involving advisory responsibilities to the board's leadership.However, Akhtar's tenure was short-lived as he was removed from the position in September 2018. Newly appointed PCB chairman Ehsan Mani dismissed the advisory panel, which included Akhtar and three other advisors, shortly after taking charge of the board.Apart from his advisory role, Akhtar was also linked with discussions for other prominent positions in Pakistan cricket, including the chief selector's role in 2020.
