Team India have already begun preparing for Sri Lanka Tests starting on August 15. The Shubman Gill-led side will travel to the Island Nation for a two-match Test series. Eyes are on Sai Sudarasan and Jasprit Bumrah, two India stars who have been named in the squad but are subject to fitness.
India will depart for Sri Lanka in the next few days, and Sai and Jasprit Bumrah are struggling to regain fitness in time to join the team.
Sai Sudharsan recovers From Injury, resumes Batting
In the latest events, a report from Cricbuzz mentioned that Sai Sudharsan is recovering well from the toe injury. Earlier, the injury was not disclosed, but the southpaw actually injured his toe and is well on course of a recovery and is most likely to be fit in time for the 1st Test.
At present, Sai Sudharsan is at the CoE, where the doctors are yet to give him a green light to join the Indian team. However, he has resumed batting. Although, it cannot be confirmed that Sai Sudharsan will 100% be a part of the 1st Test.
Everything will be cleared when India take on local Sri Lanka XI for a three-day practice match on August 7. If Sai Sudharsan gets fit to play that game, then the southpaw will most likely to start for India in the 1st Test on August 15.

Why Sai Sudharsan's Recovery Is A Blessing For Team India?
Sai Sudharsan's international career has not got off to a desired start. The southpaw has just 383 runs in 12 innings and is still searching for his maiden Test century. There were talks about his ouster, but the GT opener turned things around in his latest India A tour.
Notably, India A toured Sri Lanka A for two-match series in June. Sai Sudharsan had a brilliant tour and amassed 332 runs in just four innins, averaging 110.67. He scored centuries in both Tests which is why India are happy to see the 24-year-old recover from the injury.
If Sai still fails to play the 1st Test, then Devdutt Padikkal is ready to go. The 26-year-old played just 3 innings and scored 173 runs, averaging 57.67.
Jasprit Bumrah Nears Fitness
The same report from Cricbuzz also mentioned that Jasprit Bumrah is recovering well and will join the team in time for the Sri Lanka Tests.
For the unversed, Jasprit Bumrah injured his knee ahead of 3rd ODI against England. It was later revealed that Bumrah picked up a knee injury during T20 World Cup 2026 and was managed well by Mumbai Indians.
The report didn't reveal whether Bumrah will travel with the Indian team in the coming days or travel seperately.
