Former India captain Rohit Sharma may have rested his boots from T20I cricket, but he for sure hasn't let go of the habits he shared in the Indian dressing room. In a recent video shared by ICC on their social media handle, Rohit Sharma was seen all emotional, experiencing a T20 World Cup match from the spectator’s seat.

The video released after the India vs USA T20 World Cup 2026 clash saw Rohit Sharma share several candid moments where he confessed to how he felt on watching the game instead of playing it.

Rohit Sharma and the India T20 World Cup legacy

Rohit Sharma was India’s T20I captain when the team lifted the T20 World Cup trophy for the second time in 2024. The Mumbai Indians star led the side to a scintillating final against South Africa, where a nervy last-over thriller guided India to the silverware.

The win, as surreal as it was for the captain, proved overwhelming for the Indian team as well, with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma sharing emotional moments on the field.

However, fast forward two years and things have changed. Rohit has retired from the T20I format, with Suryakumar Yadav currently leading the team in 2026.

Rohit Sharma’s candid moments with Indian cricket team

Ahead of the match, Rohit Sharma was seen even tipping the captain on what to do if he won the toss, briefly stepping back into his on-field captaincy role in trademark fashion.

A video released by the ICC showed Rohit Sharma going through a mix of emotions. Ahead of the toss, Suryakumar Yadav met Rohit and asked him, “Jaldi bolo bat ya bowl? (Shall I choose to bat or to bowl if I win the toss?)” To which Rohit instantly replied, “Fielding le, pagal hai kya? (Opt for fielding. Mad or what?)”

Neverthless, Rohit's advise was not converted into reality since SKY lost the toss and USA opted to field first at the Wankhede.

Rohit on being on the ‘other’ side of the field

However, this was not the only hilarious moment in the video, as Rohit Sharma also opened up about his feelings as a spectator during the opening clash.

“Ajeeb lag raha hai re idhar, waha se idhar ajeeb lag raha hai. Its always nice to be here. Mumbai, the energy, its never gonna be disappointing. In the midst of everything you don’t realise you got to enjoy everything. This moment will never come back.

Its a very emotional feeling because I am not used to it. Being on this side of the field, rather than being on that side. It was a wonderful experience standing there and singing the national anthem. It was a very different feeling,” Rohit Sharma said in the video.

After the match, Rohit Sharma also met Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav and Ishan Kishan, while he greeted Axar Patel with “Arreyy Baapu…”.

India save face in front of gritty USA

While emotions ran high, Rohit Sharma’s presence added another level of charm at the Wankhede Stadium, where India registered their first T20 World Cup 2026 win with a 29-run victory over the USA.

Suryakumar Yadav held the fort with a brilliant 49-ball 84 after India’s top order collapsed early. Shivam Dube and Abhishek Sharma were disappointed with golden ducks as India posted a total of 161 on the board for the USA to chase.

After the USA encounter, India will next face Namibia on February 12 in their next group-stage match of the mega ICC event, before meeting Pakistan on February 15.
