The toss update is out, and so are the playing XIs for the high-octane PBKS vs MI, match number 58 of the IPL 2026. What came as a shocker for Mumbai Indians’ fans is the absence of both Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav in the game.
While this marks the third back-to-back outing for the team without their full-time captain and all-rounder, Hardik Pandya; stand-in captain Suryakumar’s unexpected exile has become the talk ever since Jasprit Bumrah stepped in for the toss.

At the time of toss, the stand-in captain, Jasprit Bumrah, when asked about the changes in MI's playing 11, revealed the ruling out of Surya from the match.
“We have got 2 changes. Surya (Suryakumar Yadav) is not here due to personal reasons, and Allah (Allah Mohammad Ghazanfar) is out as well”, said Bumrah.
It is worth noting that, only hours ahead of the game, Suryakumar Yadav’s ruling out of match number 58 of the IPL 2026 was confirmed, contrary to earlier updates of him being available for today’s match.

How has Suryakumar performed in IPL 2026 so far?
The right-handed explosive batter has had a forgettable outing in the ongoing IPL 2026 so far for the already eliminated Mumbai Indians. Suryakumar has scored just 195 runs in 11 innings, averaging 17.73. The star batter has already scored two ducks in IPL 2026 and overall, four single-digit scores.
Following a very successful 2025 season where he scored over 700 runs, this season has been a significant decline. MI Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene backed him, attributing his struggles to a tough phase in which nothing is working, rather than a lack of effort.
Moreover, his poor performance coincides with Mumbai Indians' poor form, as they have already been eliminated from the IPL 2026 playoffs, after the two-wicket loss against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 10.
