Cricket South Africa (CSA) will celebrate its annual Pink Day in cricket during the South Africa vs West Indies 3rd T20I on Saturday, January 31. On this day every year, the South African cricket team wears a pink jersey to spread and support the breast cancer awareness.

As stated by CSA on their official website, the board celebrates the day to raise funds for the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital Breast Care Clinic. The board additionally wrote, “It’s also the day that we remember, joyously, the brave people who died from breast cancer.”

Incidentally, with Pink Day occasions aimed at funding and supporting the Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, the matches are also hosted by the city’s iconic Wanderers Stadium every year.

Similarities with the Pink Day in Australia

Much like South Africa’s Pink Day, Cricket Australia also observes a dedicated pink-themed initiative to promote breast cancer awareness and raise funds for related causes through the sport. Started in 2009, Cricket Australia organizes a Pink Test every year during their New Year’s Test match at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG).

The funds raised through the match are donated to the McGrath foundation, a breast cancer charity founded by former Australia fast bowler Glenn McGrath in memory of his late wife Jane McGrath.
