Ravindra Jadeja walked off the field in the middle of his over on Day 5 of India’s series-deciding second Test against Sri Lanka. Bowling his 35th over of the second Sri Lankan innings in Colombo, the cricketer bowled just three deliveries before showing discomfort on his right foot.
Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna bowled the remaining three deliveries of the over with Sri Lanka reaching 368-8 by the end of 128 overs on Thursday, August 27.
Ravindra Jadeja hints calf issue on Day 5
Ravindra Jadeja has become the second Indian cricketer to walk off the field in the middle of their series-deciding second Test match against Sri Lanka at the SSC Ground in Colombo.
Bowling his 35th over, and the 128th over of the Sri Lankan innings overall, the legendary spinner pulled out mid delivery. Judging from his reaction, the cricketer seems to be suffering pain on his right foot.

He was later spotted walking off the field, prompting Prasidh Krishna to finish the remainder of the over. Jadeja’s gesture indicated that the cricketer might have suffered an issue with his calf.
Ravindra Jadeja joins Rishabh Pant among injured India players
Incidentally, Ravindra Jadeja is not the first Indian player who was forced to walk off the field in the middle of their second away Test against Sri Lanka.
Earlier on Day 1 of the match, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had to ‘retire hurt’ after getting struck on his finger from a short ball by Sri Lanka pacer Lahiru Kumara. Walking off the crease at just 3* off 15 balls, the cricketer returned the following day and punched out a regal 89-ball 63 with six boundaries and two sixes.
However, as confirmed by Dhruv Jurel and bowling coach Morne Morkel, Pant also suffered from shoulder pain which kept him out of the field for the entirety of Day 3 during Sri Lanka’s batting. In his place, Jurel took over the wicketkeeping duties before the senior pro made his return on Day 4.
It now appears like Ravindra Jadeja will also take time off the field for a while, and the BCCI is yet to drop any injury or recovery update regarding the legendary all-rounder.
Jadeja injury concerning sign for India before New Zealand series
If Ravindra Jadeja’s newly-acquired calf strain is indeed serious, his absence would make for concerning signs for Team India.
Not only will the Indian team likely lose its most experienced spinner in the final session of their second Test against Sri Lanka, the team management will hope that the cricketer attains full recovery before their upcoming two-match Test series in New Zealand.
Jadeja’s experience will prove in handy in New Zealand, considering not many Indian players in the current squad have previously played in those conditions.
Moreover, the seasoned all-rounder turned out to be one of India’s most successful batters the last time the team travelled in a SENA country, doing so back in 2025 last year in England by plundering 516 runs in just 10 innings. He also picked up 13 wickets in the series.
