He said Naqvi was informed about the stand taken by the Indian side and did not create an issue during the presentation.“We discussed the matter among ourselves and decided that we would not accept it (trophy) from him. It was our collective decision. He (Naqvi) also did not raise any objection to it," Rajeev Shukla told reporters.He further said that Naqvi presented the trophy or other presentation items to the person he was required to present them to before leaving the venue.“We informed our team accordingly, and he presented it to whoever he had to and then left,” Shukla added.Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia had also said that ACC officials were informed in advance about India's position.What Happened During IND vs SL Asia Cup Trophy Final Presentation?The trophy presentation did not take place immediately after India's 72-run victory against Sri Lanka, as it was delayed by more than half an hour.Naqvi remained at the presentation area during the delay and eventually presented the runners-up medals and cheque to the Sri Lankan team.After that, the official ceremony ended without Naqvi presenting the Asia Cup trophy to the Indian players.The Indian players later held their own medal ceremony away from the main podium.Why Are Indian Teams Not Accepting the Asia Cup Trophy From Mohsin Naqvi?This is not the first time the Indian team has refused to collect a trophy from Mohsin Naqvi. The decision is linked to the BCCI's position and the political tensions between India and Pakistan.During the 2025 Asia Cup, the Suryakumar Yadav-led team won the tournament but refused to receive the trophy from Naqvi.The decision came against the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack in April 2025. Mohsin Naqvi is not only the chairman of the PCB and the head of the ACC but also a senior political figure in Pakistan.
