Recently, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led Indian team annihilated their Sri Lankan counterparts by 72 runs to secure the Women's Asia Cup 2026 title. However, the Indian women refused to collect the trophy from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, considering he also serves as an Interior Minister in the government of Pakistan, a country that plotted the barbaric Pahalgam terror attack. Notably, the Indian men's team, led by Suryakumar Yadav, started the trend of snubbing the customary handshakes with the Pakistani players and refusing the Asia Cup trophy they won in 2025. The women's team continued the trend further and recreated similar scenes in the Asia Cup tournament. As things stand, the men's and women's Asia Cup trophies, clinched by India, are currently kept at the ACC headquarters in Dubai. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said India would get both trophies back soon. Although he didn't set a timeline, his comments hinted that the process has begun and India would formally receive the men's and women's Asia Cup trophies in due course. "We are very hopeful that very soon we are going to get not only yesterday's Women's Asia Cup trophy, but also the men's Asia Cup trophy which is not with us for the last one-and-a-half years. We are going to get both the trophies very soon," BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia was quoted as saying by PTI. However, the suggestion was dismissed, leading to unpleasant scenes during the post-match presentation after India's remarkable triumph. "Our position was very clear. We were not going to accept the trophy from a person who is not doing good for our country. Our suggestion was that ACC Deputy Chairman Khalid Al Zarooni of the Emirates Cricket Board should conduct the presentation. But our suggestion was not accepted. Therefore, we had no other option but to boycott the ceremony," Saikia added. India vs Pakistan tri-series, quadrangular series talks to be held amid Asia Cup fiascoWhile the Indian team decided against collecting the Asia Cup trophy from Pakistan's Mohsin Naqvi following the Pahalgam terror attack, a dialogue regarding the resumption of India vs Pakistan matches outside the ICC events and Asia Cup is likely to be held in the upcoming ICC seminar. The ICC seminar will take place on September 22 and 23 in Dubai, a city that witnessed the dramatic Asia Cup trophy snubs by the Indian men's and women's sides. Although the Indian team is barred from playing bilateral cricket against Pakistan, the historic rivalry could be resumed through tri-series and quadrangular series. That said, the BCCI has always followed the Indian government's instructions on playing cricket with Pakistan and is expected to do the same in this case.
