Rahul Dravid, India’s T20 World Cup 2024-winning head coach, left everyone in shock when he picked Pakistan’s Imran Khan over Virat Kohli in the list of greatest captains of all time.
Dravid shared his thoughts during a rapid-fire round hosted by Cricinfo, which they shared on social media on Saturday.
Given that Dravid and Kohli share a very fruitful relationship outside cricket as well, the former’s choice in the list of greatest captains raised many eyebrows.
To be precise, Kohli vs Imran was not the ultimate question for Dravid in the greatest captain list. It was the third-to-last question, and he had to choose one. After that, when Dravid had to pick between MS Dhoni and Imran Khan, he picked Dhoni without any hesitation.

After that, Dravid had to choose one between Dhoni and Clive Lloyd, West Indies’ two-time World Cup-winning captain, one in 1975 and another in 1975. Still, Dravid kept Dhoni at the top in the end.

Although Kohli won the 2008 U19 World Cup as India’s captain, he did not win any major ICC event after taking charge of the senior Indian men's team. They came close to lifting the Champions Trophy 2017 and the inaugural World Test Championship (WTC), but failed in the finals on both occasions.
Nevertheless, Virat Kohli was an influential captain for India, particularly in whites. Under him, India made an incredibly powerful pace attack for red-ball cricket, something they failed to achieve for a long time.
Imran Khan, on the other hand, led Pakistan to win the ODI World Cup in 1992. Without much debate, he is still considered the greatest cricketer from their country of all time, as well as the leader.
Notably, it was the only ODI World Cup that Pakistan won till date. They did win a World Cup after that, but it was T20I, in 2009.
Courtesy of having one of the most illustrious all-round careers. Imran earned a place in the ICC Hall of Fame in 2009.
