Rahul Chahar has joined the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season. The wily leg-spinner has been part of the Rajasthan cricket team since making his domestic debut back in 2016, and the 27-year-old recently played County Cricket in England for the Surrey cricket club.
It is worth noting that Chahar has been included in the Jammu and Kashmir team as a “guest player”, joining Paras Dogra and Murugan Ashwin under the category in recent years.
Rahul Chahar becomes guest player for Ranji Trophy defending champions
As reported by journalist Mohsin Kamal, Rahul Chahar will play Ranji Trophy 2026-27 matches for the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team. While he played for the Rajasthan cricket team last year, he has now joined the defending champions as a “guest player”.
Notably, Chahar is the third guest player to play for Jammu and Kashmir team, after captain Paras Dogra and ace spinner Murugan Ashwin.
The report further states that Murugan Ashwin might not play any Ranji Trophy match for the Jammu and Kashmir team this season, especially after their signing with Rahul Chahar.
Paras Dogra, meanwhile, continues to lead the Jammu and Kashmir team. He served as their captain when they lifted the historic Ranji Trophy title back in February earlier this year in Hubballi.
A look at Rahul Chahar recent form
Rahul Chahar has so far played one ODI and six T20I matches for the Indian cricket team. However, the leg-spinner played the last of those seven matches for India way back in November 2021 during the 2021 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in the UAE.
Since then, the cricketer has been plying his trade in domestic cricket, either for Rajasthan in India or for cricket clubs in England.
In the 2026 County Championship Division One season in England, Chahar picked up 14 wickets for the Surrey Cricket Club in just six innings spanning five matches at a splendid bowling average of 24.92.
He also played a handful of 20-overs Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy matches for Rajasthan late last year.
All in all, the presence of Rahul in the Jammu and Kashmir line-up is expected to further strengthen their spin-bowling attack and add valuable domestic experience to the defending champions’ squad in the 2026-27 Ranji Trophy season.
