R Ashwin Makes His ‘Ultimate’ Choice"Because of the subtleties, Axar is ahead of Jadeja at this point. Axar the white-ball bowler is right up there. It will always be up and down for a finger spinner and you may not get as many wickets all the time," R Ashwin said."I will also give a lot of credit to Axar. In this day and age, for a finger spinner without a lot of variations, he comes and bowls in the powerplay and later comes and does the job wherever the team requires it. Things are very different in the IPL," R Ashwin added.Axar Patel's Recent Numbers Give Him An EdgeAxar Patel has enjoyed a strong 2026 in T20Is. He has taken 27 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 22.41, while maintaining an economy rate of 8.12.In ODIs, Axar has played three matches and taken five wickets at an average of 31.60 and an economy rate of 5.48. He has also contributed with the bat, scoring 60 runs at a strike rate of 100.Jadeja, meanwhile, played in five ODI matches (in 2026) and has taken only two wickets at an average of 135.00 and an economy rate of 6.28.Axar also impressed in the Asian Games 2026 final against Pakistan, taking 2/29 in four overs.
