On Wednesday, the PSL officially welcomed its new franchise from Sialkot, which revealed its team name as Sialkot Stallionz. The announcement was made by franchise owner Kamil Khan ahead of the 11th edition of the PSL, scheduled to take place from March 26 to May 3.
The team name was revealed through a creative 3D animated video shared on social media platform X.
Shahid Afridi’s journey in PSL
Shahid Afridi has enjoyed a long and memorable journey in the Pakistan Super League. Over seven years, he represented several teams, including Peshawar Zalmi, Karachi Kings, Multan Sultans, and Quetta Gladiators.
It is worth mentioning that Afridi stepped away from playing in February 2022 due to a long-term back injury. Even so, he continues to remain one of the most influential figures in Pakistan cricket.
Afridi's aggressive approach, motivational style, and deep understanding of the game make him a valuable mentor for a young and ambitious franchise like Sialkot Stallionz.
History behind Sialkot Stallionz name
Meanwhile, Franchise owner Hamza Majeed explained that the name Stallionz carries deep meaning for the city of Sialkot. According to him, this name reflects pride, tradition, and the strong cricket culture of the region.
In addition, it fulfils a long-standing wish of local fans who wanted their city’s historic identity to return to top-level cricket. The name represents strength, spirit, and past success, which the franchise hopes to carry forward into the PSL.
Sialkot Stallions were one of the most successful domestic T20 teams in Pakistan’s history. Founded in 2004, the team achieved an unmatched record by winning five consecutive National T20 Cup titles from 2005 to 2010.
During this period, they also created a world record by winning 25 matches in a row at the highest T20 level. Furthermore, their invitation to the Champions League T20 in 2012 remains a proud moment for Sialkot cricket.
Sialkot logo and kit to be shared soon
With Sialkot joining the PSL as the eighth team, excitement has grown throughout the city. The franchise management shared that several names were considered, however Stallionz was chosen to connect past success with a new beginning. Details about the team logo, playing kit, and player selections will be shared soon.
Co-owner Kamil Khan stated that the focus is on building a balanced squad where local talent will play a key role alongside international players.
Under the new draft system and administrative structure of PSL 11, Sialkot Stallionz aim to adopt a well-planned strategy to build a competitive and exciting team for their first season.
