The Chennai Super Kings didn't have a very good start to their season, and after early blows, they somehow managed to bounce back with multiple consecutive wins.
However, no matter how promising their side looked later in the season, MS Dhoni was a prominent absence from the team's campaign. It was the first time that the Chennai Super Kings played a full season without MS Dhoni on the field.
MS Dhoni Misses Out Full Season Due To Injury
For the unaware, Dhoni was ruled out due to persistent injuries, including a calf and a finger injury, which kept him out of action for the entire season.
Although reports emerged regarding his playing condition and fitness updates, Dhoni couldn't make it to even a single match of the season, dashing the hopes of many CSK fans.
Nevertheless, CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan spoke on this matter while shedding light on MS Dhoni's future with Chennai Super Kings.
CSK Management On MSD’s Absence From IPL 2026
After MS Dhoni remained absent for the complete season, the CSK management, including the bowling coach and Stephen Fleming, claimed that the decision regarding MS Dhoni featuring in the upcoming season would be entirely his own, and there would be no interference from the franchise or the management staff.
As CSK struggled in the absence of the veteran on the ground, Ruturaj Gaikwad failed to make a prominent mark as captain after taking the helm.
This has now raised multiple questions about whether MS Dhoni should return as the captain of the team again, while the entirety of his IPL career remains in doubt because of his age and willingness to play next season.

CSK CEO Shares Final Word On MS Dhoni’s Future
Shedding light on MS Dhoni's future in CSK during an exclusive interview with RevSportz, the CEO of the team, Kasi Viswanathan, gave no definitive remark but repeated what Stephen Fleming had insisted earlier, that the decision for Dhoni to return to the cricket field is entirely his own, and the team management cannot force him to do anything.
According to Kasi, they haven't discussed anything with MSD so far regarding his future, and there is also a possibility that MS could take up the role of a coach or mentor for the team in the coming days. However, as of now, no retirement talks have been initiated by the CEO himself.
“See, we have not discussed anything with MS as of now. As you know, MS makes his decision on his own, and we respect that. We would always like to have him as a permanent fixture of CSK in whatever capacity, be it as a player, be it as a coach or a mentor, whatever he desires. Every decision depends on him,” CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan said.
The Glorious Leadership Of Dhoni for CSK
Under MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings enjoyed a dominant reign, winning five IPL titles since the inception of the tournament. Dhoni has led the team in 244 matches, winning 145 games and losing 96 of them.
With this, Dhoni boasts a massive win-loss ratio of 1.51 for the team. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad has led CSK in 33 matches, winning only 14 of them, with a win-loss ratio of 0.736.
Nevertheless, Dhoni has carried the legacy of Chennai since the very beginning of the tournament, and even if there is no future for him with the bat in the coming years, the franchise would still be very interested in inviting him as a guiding light for the reshaped and rebuilt yellow camp.
