Nepal Premier League (NPL) 2026 season schedule out
Notably, the NPL 2026 season’s official schedule was released this week. The tournament will begin on October 26 with Lumbini Lions taking on Sudurpaschim Royals.
The league stages will go on for 2 weeks, with the knockout games beginning on November 17. Also, the final of the NPL 2026 season will be held on November 21 at TU International Cricket Stadium.
Interestingly, NPL have updated a few rules this year. The limit for overseas players in the squad has been increased to 8, but only 4 will be allowed to feature in the playing XI at a time.
Also, at least 1 player from an ICC Associate Member nation must feature in the starting XI. Overseas players will need NOCs from their respective boards, while players who participated in an unauthorised private league in the previous six months are deemed ineligible.
NPL to adopt DRS for season 3
One of the most crucial and massive additions in the NPL 2026 season is the Decision Review System (DRS). This technology will be used this year, which will help teams challenge potentially incorrect umpiring decisions such as LBW, edges, no-balls and other calls.
Each team will receive two unsuccessful reviews per innings. This means teams can challenge two decisions that are not overturned.
The organisers are also adding approximately 30 minutes to match windows to accommodate reviews. Also, the system will cost around Rs 15-20 million, shared by the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) and the eight franchises.
