Meanwhile, after the match, Mitchell Santner opened up about his injury and revealed that he sustained a sudden impact and hence had to leave the field. But he did feel better eventually, and there are no major concerns for now.
"[on his injury] "A bit of whiplash there but it's okay," Santner said in post-match presentation.
Hence, going by Santner’s statement, he is likely to resume playing the T20I series against India. He will be fit in time for the second T20I, which is scheduled for October 24 at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
Mitchell Santner’s efforts in vain vs India
Meanwhile, before sustaining that neck injury, Mitchell Santner had shown resistance against India. In 4 overs bowled, he picked up 2 wickets for 37 runs.
He dismissed in-form opener Sanju Samson on 67 before sending back yet another dangerous batter, Ishan Kishan, on just 1 run. However, the skipper failed to find support from his peers.
Matt Henry conceded 57 runs in 3.4 overs while Adam Milne gave away 43 runs in just 3 overs. Eventually, India chased down the total in the last over to secure a 4-wicket win.
Overall, for New Zealand, Mitchell Santner is a crucial asset. Hence, he must stay fit for the hosts to make a comeback in the 5-game series.
