MS Dhoni has remained away from on-field action throughout IPL 2026 due to recurring injury concerns, but the legendary Chennai Super Kings icon is now expected to make an appearance during the CSK vs SRH clash on May 18 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

MS Dhoni has not featured in a single match this season and has also stayed away from the stadium on match days. This meant fans were deprived of witnessing even a glimpse of the iconic “Thala.”

Dhoni To Be At Chepauk For CSK vs SRH Game

A recent report circulating online has suggested that Dhoni is likely to attend Chennai Super Kings’ final home game of the IPL 2026 league stage against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Although he is not expected to feature either as an Impact player or in any Playing XI role, his expected presence at Chepauk has already sparked massive excitement among CSK supporters.

Why MS Dhoni Haven’t Been Present For IPL 2026?

Dhoni’s injury troubles reportedly began before the start of the IPL 2026 season. During pre-season training, the veteran wicketkeeper-batter suffered a persistent calf injury, which severely affected his availability.

While Dhoni underwent multiple fitness assessments and managed to clear some of the required tests, the injury was reportedly re-aggravated later, ruling him out of the majority of the tournament.

Farewell Rumours Regarding Dhoni

As the season progressed without Dhoni making an appearance, several rumours and speculations began surfacing across social media platforms.

Some reports even claimed that Dhoni had already decided to retire from the IPL and was only waiting for an official farewell announcement from the Chennai Super Kings camp before confirming his decision publicly.

However, those rumours appear to have lost momentum after a fresh report from The Indian Express suggested that Dhoni is indeed expected to attend the CSK vs SRH encounter.

Dhoni In The Stands For The Chepauk Game

The report further clarified that his role would only be limited to being present at the venue, likely from the stands, and not as an Impact Player or member of the playing XI setup.

This development comes shortly after another injury setback for the former India captain. Ahead of Chennai Super Kings’ fixture against Lucknow Super Giants, MS Dhoni reportedly injured his thumb during a training session in the nets.

Although travel arrangements and tickets had reportedly been booked for him to fly to Lucknow, Dhoni eventually stayed back in Chennai to continue his recovery.

The CSK vs SRH clash also carries emotional significance, as it will be Chennai Super Kings’ final home fixture of the season at the iconic Chepauk Stadium.

Traditionally, CSK does the lap of honour during the team’s final home game to celebrate the players and the franchise, making Dhoni’s possible presence even more special.

MS Dhoni To Play IPL 2027?

Despite ongoing retirement discussions, reports currently suggest that Dhoni is unlikely to announce his retirement immediately. The farewell narrative surrounding the veteran cricketer continues to remain strong among fans and within the franchise camp.

Some rumours have even suggested that Dhoni could return for another IPL season, especially considering that injuries prevented him from participating in IPL 2026.

Nevertheless, all speculation surrounding his future could finally receive some clarity if MS Dhoni arrives at Chepauk on May 18 for the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings also enter the contest under immense pressure in terms of playoff qualification.

Their campaign has reached a do-or-die stage, and CSK must secure a victory against SRH to keep their hopes of finishing in the top four alive in IPL 2026.
