Mohammed Siraj has backed national teammate Ravindra Jadeja amidst the latter’s recent struggles with the ball. In the two matches of India’s three-match home ODI series against New Zealand so far, Jadeja is yet to pick up a single wicket, and has conceded runs at an expensive economy rate of 5.88 runs an over.
His wicketless spell of 0-44 in eight overs even compounded in Team India’s crushing seven-wicket defeat at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot a couple of days ago to bring the three-match ODI series to levelling terms.
Mohammed Siraj says there is no concern regarding Ravindra Jadeja’s form
While speaking with the reporters in the pre-match press conference on Saturday, January 17 in Indore, Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj backed struggling teammate Ravindra Jadeja to come good for the national side in the coming days.
Siraj stated that while there is no concern regarding Ravindra Jadeja’s form within the team management, it is a matter of just one wicket before the legendary all-rounder can unleash himself on the field. Mohammed Siraj said, “I don’t think there is any concern about Jadeja’s form. It is a matter of just one wicket. Once you get that breakthrough, you will see a different bowler altogether.”
Mohammed Siraj also added that Team India’s morale remains positive despite losing the second ODI of the series in Rajkot on January 14 earlier this week. The speedster claimed that Team India played good cricket in both matches, with the likes of KL Rahul and Nitish Reddy making crucial contributions in the second game.
Siraj added, “We played very well in both matches. In the first ODI, our bowling and batting were very good. In the second match, even after losing early wickets, KL Rahul batted well and Nitish Reddy also contributed. The team environment is very good. There is strong input from the seniors. Wins and losses happen, but the atmosphere in the dressing room is very healthy, especially as we prepare for bigger tournaments.”
Mohammed Siraj rues missing T20 World Cup 2026 squad
It is worth noting that Mohammed Siraj failed to make a cut into the Indian squad for the upcoming 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. When asked about the same, the ace paceman said that while he would have loved to play the tournament, he believes workload management was the primary reason behind his exclusion.
The Indian speedster said, “I would have loved to play, but workload management could be the reason.”
Mohammed Siraj and the rest of his Indian teammates will now face New Zealand in the series-deciding third ODI match on Sunday, January 18. The match will be hosted by the Holkar Stadium in Indore. The ODI series is currently locked 1-1 after two games, with Team India winning the first ODI on January 11 in Vadodara by four wickets courtesy of Virat Kohli’s 93-run knock in a chase of 301.
Daryl Mitchell fought back for New Zealand with a scintillating century in the second ODI as the ‘Black Caps’ gunned down India’s 284-run total with much comfortability.
