The star player Virat Kohli has once again found himself trending online, but this time not for his performance on the field in the ongoing IPL 2026. A recent Instagram activity of Virat Kohli involving German influencer LizLaz has spread like wildfire across social media platforms.

The incident quickly gained attention, especially because it was similar to the 'Algorithm' controversy involving Kohli and actress Avneet Kaur in 2025.

What is the Virat Kohli and LizLaz incident all about?

The latest controversy began on April 16, 2026, when fans noticed that Virat Kohli’s official Instagram account had liked a picture posted months earlier by LizLaz.

What made the situation unusual was that Kohli did not follow the influencer, and the 'like' appeared on an older post from January.

Screenshots of the interaction quickly spread online, sparking curiosity and humour among fans.

Soon after the buzz intensified, the like reportedly disappeared, suggesting that it had been removed. The situation also drew comparisons to last year's similar incident that involved Virat Kohli and Avneet Kaur.

LizLaz breaks silence on Virat Kohli's 'Like' incident

Breaking her silence, LizLaz addressed the situation in an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times. She revealed that she initially learned about the incident through media reports rather than directly noticing the like herself.

“It was crazy because I woke up and then I was all over the news. I don’t even know when he liked the picture, I learnt through the news. So many people found the articles done on me on many different platforms and sent them to me in my DMs. I got so many messages today, people were super excited about it.”

Interestingly, LizLaz expressed sympathy for Virat. She said she felt a little bad seeing the cricketer being trolled online over what she believes may not have been intentional.

"I feel a little bad for him. I was so happy that he liked the photo, but then he unliked it. I didn't feel good for him because I don't know how it became such a big story. How people paid attention, how people made it news. Maybe that wasn't his intention, but I'm still grateful. I appreciate the support I received from him."

What Is The Controversy Between Virat Kohli and Avneet Kaur?

Fans took no time to connect the dots to Kohli's 2025 controversy involving Avneet Kaur. During that time, the fans noticed that Kohli had liked one of her posts, sparking similar online talks.

As the situation worsened, Kohli issued a clarification, stating that the interaction was due to an Instagram algorithm error. He stated that the like may have been registered unintentionally while he was clearing his feed and emphasised that there was no intent behind it.

“I'd like to clarify that while clearing my feed, the algorithm may have mistakenly registered an interaction. There was absolutely no intent behind it. I request that no unnecessary assumptions be made. I appreciate your understanding,” Kohli explained after liking a photo of Avneet Kaur.

On the cricketing front, Kohli will likely play in RCB's match against the Delhi Capitals on April 18, 2026.
