The Beating Retreat Ceremony 2026
It is important to mention that the Beating Retreat ceremony is a long-standing tradition that marks the formal end of Republic Day celebrations in India.
The event features musical performances by bands from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, Delhi Police, and the Central Armed Police Forces. This year's ceremony also celebrated the 150th anniversary of the patriotic song 'Vande Mataram'.
Presided over by the President of India, the ceremony this year combined tradition with a contemporary tribute to India's women's cricket team, blending military discipline with national pride and sporting achievement.
A Historic victory to be remembered for India
Taking about the match, South Africa Women won the toss and invited India to bat first. The Harmanpreet Kaur-lead team made 298/7 in their allotted 50 overs.
Shafali Verma dazzled with a quick 87 runs off 78 balls, while Deepti Sharma contributed a crucial 58, providing the platform for a competitive total.
In response, South Africa appeared poised to chase the target, but a brilliant spell from Deepti Sharma, who claimed 5 wickets for just 39 runs, sparked a dramatic collapse.
