Pakistan Women endured a crushing defeat against arch-rivals India Women in the sixth fixture of the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. Interestingly, a former player has now blamed selectors for leaving out the ‘lady Babar Azam’ from the squad.

The match began at Edgbaston, where the women in blue posted 170 runs on the board after Smriti Mandhana hit a vital 68 off 44 balls. She built a 91-run record partnership with Harmanpreet Kaur to guide India to a match-winning total.

Tanveer Ahmed blames Pakistan, selectors for the loss vs India

In the chase, however, Pakistan Women collapsed. Despite Muneeba Ali scoring 41 runs, the middle-order crashed completely. 7 batters were dismissed on single-digit scores, and Pakistan were eventually bowled out for 106 runs, thus enduring a 64-run loss.

Meanwhile, after the loss, former Pakistan pacer Tanveer Ahmed, speaking on a YouTube show, pinned the blame on selectors. He called out the absence of batter Sidra Amin, whom he referred to as the ‘lady Babar Azam.’

Watch the video below:

Ahmed added that Amin is a quality and experienced batter who could have pulled Pakistan out of the soup. But instead, the management not only dropped her from the playing XI but didn’t even include her in the 15-member squad.

Sidra Amin last played a T20I for Pakistan Women in February 2026 against South Africa Women. She has featured in a total of 68 T20Is in her career, scoring 1070 runs at an average of 17.83, including 4 half-centuries.

Her numbers are clearly not up to the mark, but Tanveer Ahmed begs to differ as he compared Amin to Babar Azam.

Deepti Sharma’s heroics seal the game for India

Interestingly, Pakistan had a strong start in the second innings before Deepti Sharma unravelled her magic. From 53/1, Pakistan collapsed to 79/6 courtsey to Deepti’s five-wicket-haul.

In her 4 overs, she conceded 10 runs and got rid of the top and lower order. This was the spell that completely broke Pakistan's chase. Shree Charani also supported Deepti Sharma from the other end, picking 3 wickets for 21 runs in 4 overs.

Shafali Verma also contributed with a wicket of captain Fatima Sana, who had to walk back on a duck, and eventually, Pakistan Women lost the plot and showed no fight whatsoever.

India extends head-to-head dominance against Pakistan

With that dominant victory, India now lead Pakistan 7–2 in Women's T20 World Cup meetings. Pakistan's only victories came in 2012 and 2015.

As a result, Pakistan have now gone 11 years without a Women's T20 World Cup win over India, with India winning the last seven encounters on the tournament stage.

Needless to say, with this victory, India Women have begun the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign on a winning note. They will next meet the Netherlands Women on June 17 at Headingley Stadium in Leeds.
