The development occurred mere weeks after former cricketer VVS Laxman complained about a major position at the BCCI CoE in Bengaluru.On Friday, September 11, the BCCI took to its official website and invited applications for the position of Head – Sports Science & Medicine at the Centre of Excellence.VVS Laxman’s complaint heard by BCCI, invites applicationsIn an official media release, the BCCI posted a vacancy ad on its website, for the position of Head – Sports Science & Medicine at the Centre of Excellence.Just last month while addressing to the media, CoE head and former cricketer VVS Laxman stated that the BCCI has been unable to fill the Head of Sports Science position ever since Nitin Patel offered his resignation back in 2025. While speaking with the reporters, VVS Laxman said “After Nitin Patel's exit, we didn't get anyone. With Andrew Leipus, everything was agreed upon. But at the last minute, he backed off, citing family reasons. We then had a panel comprising Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Dr Ashish Soni and me, which shortlisted five candidates.”Laxman’s concerns likely rose from the rising player injuries in the Indian cricket team in the past few months. Claiming that the CoE is more than just a “rehabilitation centre”, the cricketer-turned-coach stressed the need for a dedicated Head of Sports Science to oversee injury prevention, fitness, rehabilitation and the overall health of Indian cricketers.What is the role of Head of Sports Science and MedicineAs per the BCCI official media release, the candidate will be required to provide strategic and operational leadership to BCCI’s Sports Science and Medicine services across its elite cricket and CoE programmes.
