While speaking with the reporters, VVS Laxman said “After Nitin Patel's exit, we didn't get anyone. With Andrew Leipus, everything was agreed upon. But at the last minute, he backed off, citing family reasons. We then had a panel comprising Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, Dr Ashish Soni and me, which shortlisted five candidates.”Laxman’s concerns likely rose from the rising player injuries in the Indian cricket team in the past few months. Claiming that the CoE is more than just a “rehabilitation centre”, the cricketer-turned-coach stressed the need for a dedicated Head of Sports Science to oversee injury prevention, fitness, rehabilitation and the overall health of Indian cricketers.What is the role of Head of Sports Science and MedicineAs per the BCCI official media release, the candidate will be required to provide strategic and operational leadership to BCCI’s Sports Science and Medicine services across its elite cricket and CoE programmes.
