Hasan Mahmud [Source: AFP]The Bangladesh cricket team appears to be on an upward trajectory, particularly in Test cricket, judging by its recent results. Tearaway fast bowler Hasan Mahmud certainly believes so, especially after Bangladesh stunned Australia in Darwin a couple of months ago.Mahmud believes the Bangladesh Test side is finally starting to dream big, with the prospect of reaching the World Test Championship (WTC) final now in the frame.Hasan Mahmud brags about Bangladesh home record, win in AustraliaBack in August this year, Bangladesh scripted history by defeating Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to take a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The outcome also marked Bangladesh’s fifth win in Test cricket in the space of six matches, considering they secured identical 2-0 series win at home over Ireland and Pakistan in the preceding months.Hasan Mahmud believes that the winning momentum is now on Bangladesh’s side, and they have the ability to dominate Test cricket in the years to come. Also Read- Hasan Mahmud, The Unassuming Force Behind Bangladesh’s Rising Pace AttackWhile speaking with the AFP during an interview in Dhaka, the 29-year-old said, “The momentum is coming towards us, definitely. The atmosphere is such that Bangladesh can now dominate in Test cricket. We haven't dominated (in Test cricket). Now is the time.”It is worth noting that Hasan Mahmud himself won the ‘Player of the Match’ award in Bangladesh’s win against Australia, picking up an impressive nine-wicket match haul in Darwin at an expense of just 111 runs.Hasan Mahmud further bragged about Bangladesh’s recent surge of Test wins at home, highlighting the fact that their four straight wins spanning series against Pakistan and Ireland make them a worthy contender to reach a WTC final. He added, “If we win four matches at home, why shouldn't we play in the World Test Championship final? That's the dream for Bangladesh now.”Can Bangladesh make it to 2025-27 WTC final? In line with Hasan Mahmud’s claims, the Bangladesh cricket team has indeed taken a giant step forward in Test cricket. Within the last 12 months, the team secured identical 2-0 series win at home over Ireland and Pakistan. However, the series against Ireland was not part of the ongoing 2025-27 WTC cycle, and neither was Bangladesh’s one-match Test tour of Zimbabwe in June this year, which they lost by an innings and 85 runs.Even though the Bangladeshis were blown away by Australia in the series-deciding second Test in Mackay in August, they are placed fourth in the 2025-27 WTC points table with a healthy PCT of 55.56, thus finding themselves even above the likes of two-time finalists India, Test giants England and continental rivals Sri Lanka and Pakistan. As of now, Bangladesh need to win at least five of its remaining six matches (against WI, SA and England) to keep their dream alive of reaching the WTC 2025-27 final next year. Also Read- West Indies Predicted Playing XI vs India, 1st T20I, 2026
