In a significant development, the BCB has confirmed the Bangladesh captain for the 2027 World Cup. Recently, the Bangladesh cricket team missed out on the T20 World Cup 2026 due to a logistical deadlock with India and the BCCI.

After that, the BCB demanded that Bangladesh's T20 World Cup matches be relocated to Sri Lanka, but the ICC refused.
As a result, Scotland replaced the Tigers and participated in the marquee event, playing their matches in Kolkata and Mumbai.

As a result, the seasoned campaigner is all set to make it into the Bangladesh squad for 2027 World Cup as the skipper.
"Our ODI captain’s tenure is nearing its end. So, we feel it is very important that the captains can work uninterrupted and follow a long-term vision. Mehidy, who was appointed as the captain of the ODI team in 2025, has led the Tigers to clinical series victories over the West Indies and Pakistan. Under his leadership, the Bangladeshi team has won five out of 16 ODIs.

Litton Das gets captaincy extension until 2028 T20 World Cup
Although they missed out on the 2026 T20 World Cup, the Tigers are absolutely pumped to feature in the next edition of the competition in Australia and New Zealand.
Apart from confirming Mehidy Hasan Miraz as the captain of the Bangladesh squad for 2027 World Cup, the BCB has also extended the leadership tenure of Litton Das in T20Is.

Litton Das has the best win percentage among captains who have captained the Tigers in more than five T20Is. He has led them to 15 wins across 29 T20Is and would be keen to achieve historic feats in the 2028 World Cup.
