India Under-19 ravaged their New Zealand counterparts to conclude the league stage of the 2026 U19 World Cup at the top of the Group B points table. Captain Ayush Mhatre clubbed a sparkling half-century after RS Ambrish and Henil Patel dismantled the New Zealand batting line-up.
Here, we take a look at the entire highlights from the 24th match of the 2026 ICC Under-19 World Cup between India U19 and New Zealand U19, as it panned out at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Saturday, January 24.
RS Ambrish, Henil Patel skittle New Zealand U19 for 135
Forced to bat first in a 37-over game, New Zealand Under-19 top-order got bombarded with India’s sublime new ball gambit on a challenging Bulawayo surface. Indian pacemen RS Ambrish and Henil Patel both struck early in the game, leaving the New Zealanders wrecked and gasping for breath at 22-5 at one stage.
Ambrish initiated Indian carnage with the wicket of New Zealand opener Hugo Bogue for just four and number three Tom Jones for a sluggish 10-ball two. Henil Patel got Aryan Mann nicking towards wicketkeeper Abhigyan Kundu, before Ambrish knocked over Marco William Alpe for just a single. Khilan Patel (1-26) removed a well-set Snehith Reddy for 10 to pick up his lone wicket of the day.
Jacob Cotter (23 off 47) and Jaskaran Sandhu (18 off 27) forged a fighting 37-run partnership for the sixth wicket to steer New Zealand past the 50-run mark before both cricketers were dismissed by Mohamed Enaan (1-26) and Kanishk Chouhan (1-30) respectively in quick succession.
Tottering at 69-7, unbeaten Callum Samson restored some stability to New Zealand’s dwindling fortunes with a courageous 53-run stand with Selwin Sanjay. While Sanjay composed 28 runs from 30 balls with a boundary, Samson top-scored in the innings with 37* off 48 deliveries.
Both RS Ambrish and Henil Patel later returned to mop up the New Zealand tail from a recovering 122-7 to 135 all out in 36.2 overs. Ambrish picked up figures of 4-29, while Henil picked up the final two wickets to claim figures of 3-23.
Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi cruise India to victory
Chasing a revised target of 130 in 37 overs, India lost opener Aaron George early for just seven to New Zealand pacer Mason Clarke (1-29). Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi led India’s counterattack by blasting 40 runs from just 23 balls with two fours and three huge sixes.
The blistering opener shared a rapid 76-run partnership with captain Ayush Mhatre for the third wicket to set up stage of a comprehensive India win. Mhatre himself compiled 53 runs from 27 deliveries before both cricketers were dismissed by Jaskaran Sandhu (1-34) and Selwin Sanjay (1-22).
Vihaan Malhotra (17* off 13) and Vedant Trivedi (13* off 12) eventually notched up the winning runs for India in just 13.3 overs with seven wickets to spare.
