Australia probable XI Vs Sri Lanka [Source: X]
Australia came into the T20 World Cup with a plethora of injured players in their team. A number of key players were injured even before the start of the tournament, and that has affected their morale as the team started with an easy win over Ireland, but were humbled by Zimbabwe in the next match.
After the Zimbabwe loss, Australia needs to win its remaining two matches, and the quest begins against Sri Lanka on Monday. With a do-or-die situation in front of the Aussies, here is how they could lineup for the T20 World Cup match vs Sri Lanka.
Australia playing XI Vs Sri Lanka-Match 30
Openers and Top Order: Mitch Marsh, Travis Head, Josh Inglis
- Mitch Marsh suffered an injury last week and the Australian captain missed the all-important match against Zimbabwe as well. Steve Smith was quickly drafted in as a standby, but according to the latest report, the skipper is ready to go and will take part against Sri Lanka.
- With Mitch Marsh back, he will be paired with his trusted ally, Travis Head, who is yet to blow away the tournament with his blitz, but the Aussies will hope the southpaw can deliver the goods against a strong Sri Lankan attack.
- With Marsh-Head back as openers, Josh Inglis, who opened the innings vs Zimbabwe, will bat at 3. The Aussie keeper can bat anywhere in the top four, and the Australians will hope he can deliver the goods against Sri Lanka.
Middle-order and all-rounders: Matt Renshaw, Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis
In an ideal scenario, Australia should drop Cameron Green from their playing XI. The all-rounder failed to deliver in Australia’s first two T20 World Cup matches, and has not been useful at the number 4 spot.

(Green in T20 World Cup so far)
- So far, Green has played in two matches and has scored only 21 runs, but he failed to deliver in the all-important clash against Zimbabwe. The match against Sri Lanka will be played in Pallekele, and his medium pace bowling won’t be of much use at that venue.
- Instead, the team should continue to persist with Matt Renshaw at 4, who scored a valiant fifty in the last match, but he lost out on partners from the other end.
- Following Renshaw, Australia has three destructive batters waiting in the wings as Tim David, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis will look to score some quick runs and all three could be used as floaters, depending upon the situation.
Bowlers: Xavier Bartlett, Nathan Ellis, Adam Zampa, Matt Kuhnemann
Australia played Ben Dwarshius in the last match vs Zimbabwe, but he was taken to the cleaners as the left-arm seamer conceded 40 runs in 4 overs and became an easy target for the Chevrons. Instead of him, the team should bring in Xavier Bartlett, who is two notches above Dwarshius in T20Is.

(Bartlett in T20Is)
- Bartlett has been in superb touch in T20Is and has better stats than Dwarshius. On a sluggish Pallekele wicket, his cutters and change of variation could do wonders for the Kangaroos.
- Alongside him, Nathan Ellis will be the leader of the pace attack, and the duo of Adam Zampa, and Matt Kuhnemann will lead the spin-bowling attack.
