While they won the 4-0 against Ireland, Afghanistan got whitewashed against India in the 3-game series. Not only that, but Afghanistan also made a major leadership overhaul as Rahmat Shah took over as Test and ODI captain from July 22 after Hashmatullah Shahidi resigned. Subsequently, Rahmanullah Gurbaz was named vice-captain.This is a major transition, especially ahead of the 2027 World Cup because Shahidi had led Afghanistan in 55 ODIs, winning 27 of them. He also oversaw their historic 2023 World Cup campaign, where the team finished sixth. Also, Afghanistan will play the 2027 World Cup under a new coaching setup, with Richard Pybus appointed as head coach earlier this year. Shane McDermott was also roped in as assistant and fielding coach.Meanwhile, in the lead-up to the 2027 World Cup, Afghanistan are scheduled to play an ODI tri-series against Zimbabwe and Bangladesh in October in the UAE. Apart from this, they’ve only T20Is and Tests to play.Undoubtedly, Afghanistan have limited practice time available, and eventually, they’ll have to rely on pre-tournament warm-ups to settle into South African conditions. Also Read: Pakistan Schedule For 2027 World Cup- Fixtures, Venues, Date, Time
